THE LEADERSHIP CREDO – ALIGN & UNLEASH
‘‘When values, thoughts, feelings, and actions are in alignment, a person becomes focused and character is strengthened.’’ — John C. Maxwell
Research shows that team underperformance is rarely due to a lack of talent or resources. More often, it’s a result of misaligned leadership, Stephen R. Covey said, ‘‘Too many leaders are climbing the ladder of success only to discover it’s leaning against the wrong wall.’’ Leaders prioritise output over purpose, and checklists over culture. This creates three critical gaps:
- Productivity over purpose
- Performance without empowerment
- Management without belief-driven leadership
To lead with lasting impact, we must return to the fundamentals. This week, we’ll focus on a leadership framework grounded in transformational disciplines: ALIGN and UNLEASH.
This isn’t about adding more to your plate; it is about recalibrating how you lead so you stop running and start rising. This is how leaders finish strong, not by doing more, but by doing what matters most.

ALIGN
You can’t lead with power if you’re moving without purpose. The first act of leadership isn’t acceleration, it’s alignment.
Directionless effort burns energy and drains focus. Even the most well-designed strategies will fail if they’re not in sync with your core purpose and values.
So, as a leader, you have to:
- Choose alignment over activity, because being busy is not the same as being effective.
- Align your values, vision, and voice so that how you show up reflects what you truly stand for.
- Recognise that leadership without alignment can lead to burnout, blurred focus, and wasted energy.
- Don’t just climb the ladder of success; check whether it’s leaning against the right wall.
Stephen Covey said, “Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall.”
WHAT YOU BELIEVE:
- Alignment is clarity in motion.
- You cannot lead others well if you are internally misaligned.
- A scattered leader creates a scattered culture.
ASK YOURSELF:
- Are your current efforts aligned with what matters most to you and your organisation?
- Where might you be saying yes to things that are pulling you off course?
- What one thing can you stop, shift, or delegate to realign your energy with your highest priorities?
This week, let Alignment be your compass. If your daily decisions aren’t pointing toward your true north, it’s time to pause and recalibrate.

UNLEASH
You don’t build high-performing teams by managing harder. You unleash them by trusting deeper. Richard Branson wisely said, ‘‘Train people well enough so they can leave. Treat them well enough so they don’t want to.’’
The greatest leaders don’t just extract results; they release potential. To finish strong, it’s not about how much you do, but about how boldly you empower.
So, you have to
- Unleash potential, starting with yourself.
- Choose to stop playing small or shrinking back.
- Because leadership begins when you fully show up.
- Unleash others by empowering, not micromanaging.
- Train well, trust deeply, and treat people as capable long before they prove it.
WHAT YOU BELIEVE
- Talent is everywhere; what’s missing is the trust to unleash it.
- When leaders unleash others, everyone rises.
- Empowerment isn’t about losing control; it’s about letting go of fear.
ASK YOURSELF:
- What part of you have you been holding back out of fear or perfectionism?
- Is there a skill you’ve delayed developing that could significantly accelerate your impact this month?
- Who on your team is ready for more, and are you prepared to trust them with it?
To unleash potential, create a psychologically safe environment. Growth doesn’t happen when people feel watched. It happens when they feel trusted.
Exceptional leaders don’t drive harder; they empower others to drive deeper. Click Here. to learn how the UNLEASH approach helps you build empowered, accountable teams with the Maxwell DISC Assessment tools.
LEADERSHIP REFLECTION
- Are your current actions aligned with your ultimate impact?
- Are you leading in a way that unleashes others, or are you unintentionally capping their capacity?
